The Left have decided COVID-19 is a “magic virus" that chooses not to spread despite thousands of protestors deliberately flouting coronavirus restrictions to attend Black Lives Matter rallies, according to Sky News contributor Daisy Cousens. Across major Australian cities on the weekend, tens of thousands of people marched to protest Indigenous deaths in custody, which has sparked outrage over the double standards when it comes to the policing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
Ms Cousens said the Left seems to think the coronavirus can “magically detect why certain crowds are in a place” and therefore can only spread in specific gatherings for “specific purposes”. She told Sky News the protests exemplify how there is a “total unequal application of standards” as the demonstrators were the exact same crowd who were “calling Scott Morrison practically the devil” for not instigating the lockdown immediately.

Green-left journalists hit the nation 'with a callous slap in the face' | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says the “hypocrisy is astounding” as green-left journalists are in favour of onerous lockdown laws and authoritarian controls but not when it comes to “the radical activists who want to march in the streets”. \n\nOver the weekend thousands of people attended Black Lives Matter protests in Australian capital cities despite social distancing bans being largely still implemented and businesses heavily impacted by the government-imposed restrictions. \n\nMr Kenny said the protests on the weekend “really made a lot of us very angry”. \n\n“After months of people's lives being turned upside down, we weren't very happy to see activists and agitators given a leave pass as they rallied across the nation”. \n\n“People have had to shut down their businesses, leave their jobs, work from home, give up their weekly worship, give up playing sport, give up watching sport, give up going to the gym, the list goes on, but protesters, well protesters still get to do their thing”. \n\nMr Kenny said one has to just simply “flick on to the Insiders” ABC program to observe “how the media\u002Fpolitical class just lives on another planet”. \n\n“The ABC commentators sympathise with the protesters, not the mainstream,” he said. \n\n“No sense of indignation, no sense of double standards, no sense of discrimination against those whose jobs and activities have been shut down, just solidarity with the political agitators”. \n\n“The hypocrisy is astounding enough, but the real quandary for the media, is how these journalists have no sense, no comprehension of community attitudes, no sense of the insult perpetrated by the protesters and the governments who allowed them”. \n\n“The callous slap in the face to everyone else in the country who has made sacrifices in order to slow the spread of the pandemic”. \n\nImage: AP

GST reform 'too hard politically' for the govt | Sky News AustraliaDespite company and income tax revenues falling through the floor, the federal government believes it is “too difficult a task politically” to reform the GST, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.\n \nThe Morrison government has spent in excess of $214 billion in economic stimulus and other measures to cushion the damaging impact of the novel coronavirus.\n \nThe fiscal measures represent in excess of 11 per cent of Australia’s total GDP, and despite this the economy slipped into a technical recession for the first time in 29 years.\n \nPrior to the crisis, Prime Minister Scott Morrison ruled out lifting the GST from 10 per cent to 12 per cent or broaden the base to include fresh food and other basics.\n \nMr Clennell said economists have long advocated for an increase in consumption-based taxes.\n \n“Economists will tell you that GST and land tax are the most efficient taxes,” he said.\n\n'In other developed countries, their company tax is lower, their personal income tax is lower, and their consumption taxes are higher.\n \n'Yet it seems it is seen as just too difficult to do here. There is the barrier of the Labor state governments about to go to election – Queensland and WA – federal Labor and therefore the Senate.”\n \nMr Clennell said despite this, the current crisis may be the catalyst for systemic tax reform.\n\n“In times like now, apart from anything else, the revenue you collect from company tax and personal income tax goes through the floor,” he said.\n \n“There is an argument that our economy and the budget need this type of tax reform and that it could boost the economy and investment.”
