Across all seven of their World Cup matches, the Matildas travelled a total 799.1 kilometres – enough to get them from Sydney to Brisbane , with the biggest chunk of that coming in their quarter-final against France. With 120 minutes of playing time – after the game was sent into extra time – the Matildas ran 136.7 kilometres compared to France’s 133.6 kilometres, with Mary Fowler racking up the most of any player with 14.6 kilometres.
The most distance covered in a single game was during Spain’s quarter-final against the Netherlands, which went into extra time with teenage sensation Salma Paralluelo scoring in the 111th minute. Spain covered 149.6 kilometres in that match, with Teresa Abelleira clocking 14.9 kilometres – the most distance covered by an individual in a single match.
When it came to tackles, Australian midfielder Katrina Gorry took the top spot with 59 for the tournament – a fair way ahead of both Jackie Groenen and Georgia Stanway with 44 tackles.
