The NSW government is crowing about its plans for 30,000 new homes, with 44 state-owned sites selected for the extra housing. But state treasurer Daniel Mookhey is remaining tight-lipped about the exact geography of the development sites.

In the midst of a housing crisis, it's no surprise the New South Wales government is crowing about 30,000 new homes.Following an audit, the government has selected 44 state-owned sites on which to build the extra homes.

It will also be relying on the private sector to build most of the new homes, so the government needs to ensure the land is released in a staged manner. Not only is the government spending 5.1 billion to deliver 8,400 social homes, half of that stock will be devoted to survivors of domestic violence.Thirty thousand homes may sound like a lot, but it's just a small fraction of the 377,000 NSW needs to build by 2029 in order to reach its national targets.
