Caring, friendly, loyal, honest, happy — they're all words that more than 50,000 Australians used to describe themselves, but one was more important than any other.
Elspeth Probyn, professor of gender and cultural studies at the University of Sydney, said the words people described themselves with reflected a climate of instability and change in 2019.
"These are the things that reflect so-called Australian values," she said."Integrity is also highly rated, at a time when most people don't trust politicians." "Mate" and"mateship" did rate a mention, but were chosen by less than 20 men and 10 women, and larrikin was chosen by less than 10 men, compared to the thousands who described themselves as"caring" and"honest".
