Journalists have been attacked by police while covering civil rights protests in the United States. PeterGreste told scottsowales there have been over 100 such incidents in just the past week. UQ_news protests
The protest that have swept the United States over the past week has seen many instances of journalists attacked by police as they attempt to report on the uprisings in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
In one case a freelance photographer Linda Tirado was left blind in one eye after being hit by rubber a bullet. This morning an Australian news crew found itself on the receiving end of what can only described as an unprovoked attack by police in Washington DC. Seven News US Correspondent Amelia Brace and cameraman Tim Myers were attacked by police as they were covering a protest in the capital.
Peter Greste heads the Alliance for Journalists' Freedom and says the incidents have serious implications for press freedom.
