In a converted church hall, a Queanbeyan charity provides shelter for Australians with mental illness who may be at an increased risk of homelessness.
In a refurbished cathedral hall, volunteers are hard at work preparing dinner.
She is one of the many people who offer her time regularly for the not-for-profit charity, HOME in Queanbeyan. The majority of the residents have schizophrenia and are referred by the Queanbeyan Mental Health Service. There are currently 14 men and six women residents, with an average of seven or eight residents from the ACT.
"Oh my word. What we're doing here is such a small part of the need that's out there, but you can't do the lot and do it well, you can't. So, we've got to do what we do well," she said.
