Cricket: Rising young gun Sam Konstas couldn't make much of an impression against Victoria, after being dismissed for just 2.

Konstas departs cheaply after rough LBW? | 00:35Champion batsman Steve Smith said part of his reason for returning to his preferred No. 4 position was due to “the hatred” his top-order teammates had for his shift to opener at the tail-end of last summer as a replacement for David Warner .on Monday, has put the experiment of partnering Usman Khawaja behind him.

New to Kayo? But he said Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne were “pretty strong on me not batting there” and preferred “the security” of him batting in the middle order. While Australian selector George Bailey said earlier this month the decision regarding Smith was made at the request of the 2015 ICC Cricketer of the Year, the former captain described it as a consultative process.

Australian great Brett Lee is among those who believe Smith’s return to No. 4 is a positive ahead of the India series, telling Fox Cricket podcast“He tried to do the right thing by the team, because they were lacking a batsman and didn’t have a lot of opportunity back then,” Lee said. “But it is the mindset. It is the way he believes he has to score runs. He can take his time facing that brand new ball … and if batsmen get through the first two, three or four overs, it is a different feel because the ball loses its sheen and it has not got as much in the wicket.

The right-hander faced 29 balls before glancing a delivery from Fergus O’Neill, who has been picked for Australia A and claimed four wickets as the Victorians routed the visitors, to wicketkeeper Sam Harper.
