Hundreds of passengers were forced to line up in the cold outside Sydney Airport on Monday as thick fog caused delays.
The line for security snaked around the entrance to the airport as passengers were told to prepare for flight delays of up to 40 minutes.Charlotte Grieve Over the airport speakers, a spokesman was apologetic to customers in the line: “we appreciate this is not how you want to spend your Monday morning”.
A spokeswoman for Sydney Airport said there were delays of up to 40 minutes early on Monday due to the fog, which had cleared by mid-morning, but a technical issue had also hindered operations.“Heavy fog affected flights earlier this morning, and a technical issue has meant we’re temporarily operating one less security lane than normal in T2 Domestic [Terminal].”In a social media post, Qantas warned passengers to check their flights.
“Due to the fog in Sydney this morning, a number of flights have been delayed across the network,” the statement said.The heavy fog also caused delays across Sydney’s ferry network on Monday morning, the F3 Parramatta River ferries particularly running late.The Morning Edition newsletter is our guide to the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
