Australian Olympic gold medallist, BMX rider Logan Martin, had some of his equipment stolen after thieves allegedly ransacked his team’s van just two days before the opening ceremony.
A video shared by Martin on Instagram on Wednesday morning, Paris time, shows the smashed side window of the van and police officers speaking to a member of the Australian delegation.“Our van got broken into last night, luckily my bikes weren’t in there,” Martin can be heard saying in video. “Although my bike bags were in there with some things in . Crazy start to the trip.”
The footage then pans over to two BMX bikes sporting Australia’s national colours parked on the footpath, which is covered in shattered glass. In a second video, Martin can be seen recovering some of the stolen gear, including a massage table and helmet, after tracking down the bags at the base of a tree using an Airtag placed in the luggage.
The video shows the contents of the bag strewn across the grass including Martin’s gloves and chocolate wrappers.
