University of Sydney Vice Chancellor Mark Scott says the systemic under utilisation of women in the workforce is a “scandalous” waste.
University of Sydney vice chancellor Mark Scott has achieved what many CEOs would find near impossible – he has stacked his leadership team with women.
The recruits are deputy vice chancellors Emma Johnston, Joanne Wright and Annamarie Jagose, vice principal Kirsten Andrews and general counsel Olivia Perks. “Are we doing all we can do to help women’s careers flourish?” he asked. “Have we identified what the impediments might be, especially to women in their early and mid-careers, that may stop their trajectory, career trajectory from being all that it could be if gender was not a factor.”The number of women in Professor Scott’s executive team has gone from seven to 12 out of a total of 16 spots since he became vice chancellor a little over a year ago.
“What I would be delighted [with] is, after making stellar contributions at Sydney, some of the members of this executive team were qualified to run either Sydney or other big Australian universities or global universities.”
