Ohio Senator and Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance has spoken about his initial reaction to the attempt on Donald Trump's life during a rally in Pennsylvania earlier this year.

'Thought they had killed him': Republican vice president nominee JD Vance reveals his reaction to assassination attempt of Donald Trump on Joe Rogan 's podcast

His appearance was longer than Donald Trump's, who joined the podcast last week, spending more than three hours in the Austin, Texas studio. Vance said Trump was leaning towards picking him and suggested announcing it at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, before changing his mind. Trump's ear was wounded and he was swiftly protected by members of the Secret Service. An attendee lost his life in the shooting, while Crooks was later killed by a member of the Secret Service Sniper Team.

"He gets shot... you know the initial reaction is I actually thought they had killed him, because when you first see the video he grabs his ear and then he goes down and I'm like 'oh my God, they just killed him'," he said. Two days after the chaotic Saturday rally, Vance was officially announced as Trump's vice presidential candidate.
