New mums and dads who split care responsibilities will get two weeks of extra paid leave, under new parental entitlements for the NSW public service. The initiative impacting public servants will be included in the June 21 state budget. 7NEWS

The government has also announced its intention to remove the distinction between “primary” and “secondary” carers.

That would mean mums and dads in the public service will be entitled to at least 14 weeks’ leave when they have a new baby.The announcement comes after the state government backed a $1 billion rail upgrade between Sydney and the Central Coast that could pave the way for faster train services. The state will work with the federal government on the upgrade, with $500 million to be set aside in the June 21 state budget, Perrottet said., Labor pledged $500 million of Commonwealth funds to a scheme linking Sydney and Newcastle with fast rail services.

The NSW government announcement on Saturday, focused initially on the Sydney-Central Coast link, will improve the Tuggerah-Wyong connection and include new electrified tracks, rail bridges over the Wyong River, and station upgrades.
