Industrial action by the Combined Rail Union (CRU) caused widespread disruption to train services across New South Wales on Thursday, with thousands of cancellations and significant delays reported.

Thousands of train services were canceled across New South Wales on Thursday due to ongoing industrial action by rail workers. The Combined Rail Union (CRU) implemented a 'go slow' tactic, limiting train speeds to 23 kilometers per hour on lines where they typically travel up to 80 kilometers per hour. Transport Minister Jo Haylen stated that up to 1,000 services were impacted throughout the day.

Transport for NSW had warned of significant disruptions, including lengthy delays, service cancellations, and large service gaps, attributed to the industrial action. The affected lines included the T1 North Shore and Western, T2 Leppington and Inner West, T3 Liverpool and Inner West, T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra, T8 Airport and South, Blue Mountains, South Coast, and the Central Coast and Newcastle lines. While buses were deployed to support train services on some routes, their availability was limited. Transport for NSW urged passengers to postpone non-essential travel, allow extra time for their journeys, and explore alternative transportation options. The Rail, Tram, and Bus Union and the CRU indicated that industrial action was expected to continue until Friday. The state government asserted that it had proposed a 13 percent pay increase over a four-year period, along with a 1 percent superannuation increase and a 1 percent mutual gains bargaining agreement, totaling a 15 percent pay rise. However, this offer falls short of the 32 percent increase demanded by the union over the same timeframe
