The 7,200-foot-long stretch of rail connects the Rockridge, Orinda and Lafayette stations, and all three will be closed Feb. 18-20. BART passengers should expect 30-minute delays; free buses will replace train service at the Rockridge and Orinda stations. The last scheduled departure on all three days from Antioch to Lafayette/Orinda will be earlier than usual. Westbound passengers from Antioch will have to catch the train at 11:14 p.m.A spokesperson for the transit agency told SFGATE that holiday weekends are typically low-ridership periods, so they expect the track replacement to impact only a small number of passengers.
The construction of the “decades old” track is being funded by the Measure RR rebuilding program, a $3.5 billion bond approved in 2016 to rebuild BART’s infrastructure.
