Three firefighters have been taken to hospital with burn injuries after their crew was 'enveloped by fire' near the Bargo area, south west of Sydney

Commissioner Fitzsimmons said RFS crews still had many hours of "difficult activity" to get through on Thursday, ahead of a "worse day again on Saturday".

"The PM is very across this issue and is getting daily briefings...we are in constant contact. We just need the weather to be kind to us and we will get through this." "The biggest concern over the next few days is the unpredictability, with extreme wind conditions [and] extremely hot temperatures," Ms Berejiklian said at a press conference on Thursday morning.

The RFS has extreme fire danger warnings in place for the Greater Sydney, Illawarra and Shoalhaven and Southern Ranges areas.
