Emergency services treated three people for smoke inhalation as over 30 firefighting units, including three helicopters, battled an out-of-control grass fire in Melbourne’s northwest on Tuesday afternoon.

Police confirmed an investigation into how the fire started is under way, but it was not being treated as suspicious.Nine units were dispatched to Dalton Lane, Hilgay, about 2.55pm where the blaze was moving north-westerly.

Firefighting vehicles, including three helicopters, are on the scene of an out of control grass fire close to Melbourne Airport.Victoria Emergency downgraded the threat level after the fire was brought under control after 4pm.
