Brittany Higgins’s fiance David Sharaz has issued a statement on social media announcing he is no longer contesting a defamation case launched by Linda Reynolds which is set to proceed to trial within months.

My instructions are to tell your honour is there's every chance he wants to get off this ride.In the middle of proceedings, Mr Sharaz then posted on X to implore Senator Reynolds to “agree to disagree” and avoid subjecting Ms Higgins to a “third trial”.

"Trying to particularise it during the evidence was like trying to grab a column of smoke," Justice Michael Lee wrote. In her own statement, Ms Higgins offered a public apology for the hurt inflicted upon her former boss, but suggested they were yet to find"common ground" over the events which followed her rape.
