A New South Wales man who caused southern Tasmania to be sent into a snap three-day lockdown in October has been sentenced in the Hobart Magistrates' Court.

His travel pass, only listed that he had spent the previous 14 days in Queensland. He made no mention of having been in New South Wales, despite living there for months.

His identity and falsehoods were discovered, and he conceded that he had lied, claiming he was confused about the border requirements."[It was clear] he was unhappy from outset, " said Magistrate Mollard."Given he was heard telling 'babe' he wouldn't be there long and to meet him there."While he was "at large" he entered Woolworths Bridgewater, in Hobart's north, and spent roughly 20 minutes there.

But Magistrate Mollard said he did not consider Gunn's positive test to be an aggravating factor in sentencing."The fact he was positive was relevant as an illustration of why systems are necessary and appropriate and therefore, the seriousness of the offending."
