Former deputy leader of the Queensland Labor Party Tim Mulherin dies aged 63. Mr Mulherin was elected to State Parliament in 1995 and served as the member for Mackay for 20 years before he retired in 2015.

Former Queensland deputy opposition leader and minister Tim Mulherin has died aged 63.

Mr Mulherin was elected to State Parliament in 1995 and served as the member for Mackay for 20 years until he retired in 2015 for health and family reasons. He served then-Premier Peter Beattie as Primary Industries and Fisheries minister before holding Rural and Agriculture portfolios in the Bligh GovernmentAfter the Bligh electoral wipe-out in 2012, Mr Mulherin became the current Premier's offsider as Deputy Opposition leader.

"Tim was a great champion for Mackay and regional Queensland and a tireless advocate who championed for everyone no matter their politics," she said."He garnered the respect of his colleagues and the Mackay community and all others who knew him.
