Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Warning! This article contains spoilers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #142 Venus is a member of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles whose history on the team stretches all the way back to the ‘90s, before the relatively revamped continuity under IDW Publishing, and way before Jennika firmly claimed her spot as the official Fifth Turtle.
Venus was first introduced in the ‘90s live-action TV show Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation as the first Fifth Turtle in TMNT history, across all mediums. Unfortunately, fan reception for her character was just as bad, if not worse, than it was for the entire series. Like the show, Venus was quickly written off, never to be seen again. That is, until her return in IDW Publishing's TMNT continuity.
Venus Finally Rejoins The TMNT, Honoring Her ‘90s Origin In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #142 by Sophie Campbell, Gavin Smith, and Kevin Eastman, the evil mutant scientist/surgeon Dr. Jasper Barlow has kidnapped a mutant ally of the TMNT, and they need all the help they can get to bring them back home. Right now, there is a lot of division among the TMNT ranks.
Not only is this a treat for ‘90s kids everywhere who actually liked Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation , this moment is also immensely significant in-canon. Venus only exists because of Dr. Barlow, as he was the one who experimented on her and made her the Ninja Turtle she is today. It’s Venus’ traumatic connection with the mad scientist that will make her integral in the mission that is to come.
While she’s now regarded as the Sixth Turtle, Venus will always have a special place in the hearts and minds of TMNT fans everywhere as the first Fifth Turtle on the team, making this moment where Venus finally rejoins the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles family so incredibly meaningful.
