Michael Schipper, a psychology major at UH, got into an argument with his fellow classmates over just how much in touch our federal government was with the people.

Not to let the 20th anniversay of Pearl Harbor go unreferenced on the front page, there was a story about Parker Alford, World War II veteran. In a conversation with his teenage son, Alford noted a lack of patriotism among the youth. "Son," the Chronicle reported,"I'm a little concerned the about kids today. I'm afraid they don't have the idealism, the patriotism of my generation.
"Your mother and I have noticed at the football games that many of them don't even bother to stand up for the national anthem or to stand at attention when the flag goes by."
