Police have labelled the death of a 14-month-old toddler who was hit by a car in regional Victoria as a "tragic accident".
Officers were told a car was travelling in the slip lane of High Street when the 14-month-old child was struck about 7.30pm.Bendigo Highway Patrol Acting Senior Sergeant Dale Simm said the 56-year-old driver thought he had hit an animal at the time.
