While the ACF says it would like to see amendments to the safeguard mechanism legislation – scheduled to be debated in the Senate in coming days – that would limit the use of carbon offsets and put pressure on new coal and gas projects, it argues the “safeguard mechanism is a start, not an end, to climate policy in Australia”.
