Yes campaigners are preparing to unleash a formidable war chest and a volunteer army after days of worry about falling support for the Voice.

Simon Frost is prominent in Coalition circles, having served on campaigns since 2001 including Josh Frydenberg’s at the last federal election.

The body has hired state co-ordinators to flood Australia with Yes merchandise, place banners in public places and help manage a network of pro-Voice figures – including leaders like Rachel Perkins and Thomas Mayo – who have begun crossing the country speaking at hundreds of forums at sporting clubs, religious institutions and community halls.

“We’ve got people trained in kitchen table conversations and this is all about taking it out of Canberra and putting it around kitchen tables and barbecues. Talking to people in their own language,” Parkin said in an interview. Separate from the Yes23 campaign effort, the government plans to use a series of high-profile Indigenous festivals and events to bring energy and attention to the reconciliation push, much of which will occur after a key referendum bill passes the parliament in June.
