Victoria has introduced the country’s toughest mask rules – covering children as young as eight – but turned down health advice that it should bring back density limits in hospitality venues. covid19 vaccine

Victoria has introduced the country’s toughest mask rules – covering children as young as eight – but the government rejected the Chief Health Officer’s advice that it should bring back density limits in hospitality venues.

Mr Foley said he weighed the health advice against the economic, mental health and social imperatives before signing off on the new rules. Professor Sutton warned the country faced an immediate threat from Omicron that threatened to overwhelm hospitals. While early data indicated Omicron was one-fifth as severe as the Delta strain in causing illness, cases in NSW had increased 15-fold over the past week. Professor Sutton said that would all but guarantee a challenge to the healthcare system.

“However, we recognise that the mask-wearing requirement will still enable every business to open without density limits which is crucial as our economy roars back,” Mr Guerra said.
