A Rossendale town has been earmarked an extra £20million in future funding for regeneration work as part of the government’s new budget.

The scheme was launched last year as part of government levelling-up plans with 55 towns first identified. This week, the Chancellor said a further 20 towns have been selected.
It is understood each town listed this week will receive ‘endowment-style’ funding and support worth up £20million over the next 10 years for communities and regeneration. Nelson was recently advised to create a new Town Deal Board or ‘repurpose’ its existing one for the next phase. This was described as ‘new style politics’ by government minister Michael Gove MP.
