Toyota has retained its position as the world's best-selling carmaker for the fifth straight year, selling 10.82 million vehicles in 2024. Despite a 3.7% decline from its record-breaking sales in 2023, Toyota surpassed its previous sales peak set in 2019. The company outperformed the Volkswagen Group, which sold 9.03 million vehicles. Toyota's global sales performance was driven by strong contributions from its core brand and Lexus luxury division.
For the fifth consecutive year, Toyota was the world’s best-selling carmaker in 2024, but it couldn’t match its record pace from the previous year. In 2024, the Toyota Motor Corporation – which includes the Lexus luxury brand, the Daihatsu small-car division and Hino trucks – sold 10,821,480 vehicles, down 3.7 per cent on its 2023 record of 11,233,039 sales, which stands as the strongest year for any auto company.
