The deaths of two sailors overnight in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race is "absolutely tragic", one of the race's directors said.

Vice Commodore David Jacobs, of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, which hosts the race, said his thoughts were with the families and loved ones of those who died, as well as "the whole of the sailing community".Two people have died on separate yachts in the Sydney to Hobart race.
