Commuters have been warned the passenger rail network won’t run from Friday morning until Sunday morning in a major escalation of a pay dispute.
Sydney’s rail network shutdown has been pushed back to Friday morning as negotiations continue in a bid to stop what will be one of the biggest rail disruptions in the state’s history., but will now cease about 4.15am on Friday. The negotiated outcome means the Pearl Jam rock concert at Sydney Olympic Park on Thursday night will be serviced by 86 special event trains. At a last-minute meeting between the Rail, Tram and Bus Union and Sydney Trains at 5.
While there are still services running until Friday morning in Sydney, ongoing industrial action is still impacting intercity services. On Thursday there will be service reductions and some cancellations due to a culmination of industrial actions, a Transport for NSW spokesperson said. “Those getting to Pearl Jam on Thursday night will be able to use train services, but across Friday and Saturday there will be some replacement bus services ... we are expecting major disruption and we are asking people to make other arrangements.”“But meanwhile these bans are not about industrial issues. They’re about 24-hour running or 50 cent fares. Now, those are matters for the government.”
