TransGrid is prepared to compulsorily acquire properties along the route of the proposed 360-kilometre HumeLink in southern NSW if landowners don’t agree to sell.

Energy ministers from Australia’s two biggest states have called for the nation to “get on” with building transmission networks as TransGrid boss Brett Redman warned the electricity operator was prepared to compulsorily acquire properties along the route of the proposed 360-kilometre HumeLink.

Ms Sharpe warned consumers would ultimately end up paying for the new transmission networks in their electricity bills, and there was not a “blank cheque” for how much money the government was prepared to spend on building them. “Ultimately, we just have to get on and get it done if we want energy security, if we want it done in a timely fashion,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.Having a state-owned electricity commission in Victoria would help boost the workforces needed to build transmission networks amid foreign competition, the minister claimed.

But he warned that if HumeLink was not delivered on time in 2026, it would significantly increase the risks of network unreliability.
