The contract also includes six diesel rail cars to replace existing rolling stock on the Australind rail service, along with a new manufacturing and assembly plant in Bellevue, a short distance from the original railway workshops."The project is not only one of the largest contracts in Western Australia, it's also the largest single contract that Alstom has ever secured in Australia," Alstom Australia and New Zealand managing director Mark Coxon said.
"On rail cars manufactured before this announcement, there was about 2 per cent local content. We are increasing that 25-fold," WA Premier Mark McGowan said.
