A WA nurse who tested positive for coronavirus while working in Victoria during its COVID-19 outbreak will be brought home.

Renee Freeman and her six colleagues volunteered to work in aged care last month, but she returned a positive test for coronavirus this week, forcing them all into isolation in Melbourne hotels.

Specifically, she said Ms Freeman was comfortable with the plan and was feeling “pretty well” so it was hoped there would be no hurdles to her returning to WA with the others.“Her return to the healthcare environment does require testing, but we can conclude that here in WA for her so that doesn’t delay her return.”

“Obviously it’s very traumatic and concerning for the families and the individuals involved,” he said. The Australian Nursing Federation state secretary Mark Olson said the nurses were told before leaving WA that if they became infected they would be flown home by the Royal Flying Doctor Service as soon as possible.Dr Lawrence confirmed medevacs were discussed, but said no commitments were made.“Repatriation included plans ... not only if there was COVID, but if they had another illness or a family member had an illness back in WA.
