Health and Aged Care Minister Mark Butler states that the tripling of the bulk billing incentive has prompted many GPs to come back to the practice. The incentive for GPs who bulk bill children, pensioners, and concession cardholders will be tripled, leading to a significant income boost. GPs who had moved away due to the COVID pandemic and rising living costs are now returning.

Health and Aged Care Minister Mark Butler says the tripling of the bulk billing incentive has encouraged “many GPs” to return to the practice.

“We are hearing from them right across the country; those that have moved away intend to return to bulk billing because this is a very big income boost," Mr Bulter told Sky News Australia. The incentive for general practitioners who bulk bill children under 16, pensioners and other Commonwealth concession cardholders will be tripled for most common GP consultants as of Wednesday.

Over the past few years many GPs moved away from bulk billing “unwillingly” due to the COVID pandemic and soaring cost of living, but those that did are “returning” the Health Minister told Sky News Australia.
