Mr Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to stop funding, sponsorship, promotion, assistance, for gender-affirming care for children under the age of 19 across the US. The order halts any funding for puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgical procedures used in paediatric gender-affirming care, including Medicaid funds.
Medicaid programs in some states cover gender-affirming care. The new order suggests that practice could end and it could target hospitals and universities that receive federal money and provide the care.
