He outlined the imposition of 25% emergency tariffs on Colombian goods entering the US, with an escalation to 50% within a week. Furthermore, he announced a 'travel ban and immediate visa revocations on Colombian government officials, and all allies and supporters,' as well as visa sanctions targeting Colombian government party members, their families, and supporters. Trump also emphasized the implementation of heightened customs and border protection checks on Colombians and cargo entering the US. These actions follow President Petro's declaration that Colombia would not accept repatriation flights from the US until the Trump administration established a protocol treating migrants with 'dignity.' Petro expressed his stance on X, stating, 'The United States cannot treat Colombian migrants as criminals. I forbid entry to our territory to US planes carrying Colombian migrants. That is why I returned the US military planes that were carrying Colombian migrants.' He further emphasized that Colombia would receive Colombians via 'civilian airplanes' and 'without treatment like criminals.
