US President Donald Trump has donned a face mask in public for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic as he visited a military hospital.

The President said it was a good idea to wear a mask while visiting people who were unwell and at risk from the coronavirus, despite previous statements where he questioned the purpose of wearing masks. “I’ve never been against masks but I do believe they have a time and a place,” he said. The US reported 66,500 new cases of the coronavirus at the weekend, with Florida marking a record single-day spike with more than 15,000 new infections.
