Erin Patterson, the woman allegedly at the centre of a fatal mushroom lunch which claimed the lives of three people, has appeared in court in Victoria for the first time in five months.

Erin Patterson - the woman accused of murdering three people who died after eating a mushroom lunch in Victoria - has faced court for the first time in five months, as there was a surprising discussion around a date for her committal hearing.

Court started closer to 10.20am instead of the anticipated 10am-timeslot due to a hiccup with the public audio-visual link. There was a large discussion about pencilling in a date for Ms Patterson's committal hearing - where evidence and witnesses are tested before a matter is handed up to a higher court.

Magistrate Walsh asked the legal team if Ms Patterson understood that meant a committal hearing was unlikely to occur this year and she would be remanded in custody until such date is possible - which could be at least 14 to 15 months. Homicide Squad detectives searched Erin Patterson's home at Leongatha in South Gippsland last year. Picture : NCA newsWire / Ian Currie

Ms Patterson is also facing five counts of attempted murder, one which relates to Mr Wilkinson and four to previous alleged incidents regarding her ex-husband Simon.
