A father and grandfather have drowned trying to save a toddler from a pool on the Gold Coast. It is believed the men, aged 38 and 65, jumped into the pool to rescue a two-year-old child at the Top of the Mark Holiday Apartments on Orchid Ave in Surfers Paradise just before 7pm Sunday. Paramedics said the men were pulled from the water by bystanders, who administered CPR until paramedics arrived. The men were unable to be revived and died at the scene. The toddler was rescued from the water.
“It’s believed that that child has lost their footing, causing them to fall into a deeper part of the pool, at which point the two male patients have entered the pool in an attempt to rescue that child and found themselves in trouble in the pool,” he said. Ware said the men were the child’s father and grandfather. “It’s an extremely emotional scene,” Ware said. “Obviously, anyone can understand, to not just lose one family member, but to lose two family members.
