Queensland Police said Constable Matthew Arnold and Constable Rachel McCrow were shot dead "in the line of duty" at Wieambilla in the Western Downs.
He was understood to have been in contact with people in that time, but that communication ceased in recent days.A woman, 45, was also killed in the shootout with police.Arnold, 26, and McCrow, 29, died at the scene.Police confirmed about 2am local time that a further two men and a woman had later been killed in a confrontation with more officers shortly after 10.30pm.Police have lifted the exclusion zone in the area.
Police on the property at Wieambilla, about 300km west of Brisbane where the shooting and siege took place."This event is the largest loss of police life we have suffered in a single incident in many years." Local resident Allan Bougoure said many people in the tight-knit town of 2000 knew the two police officers.
