For the third time in the history of the WorldAthleticsChamps, three Americans have swept the podium of the men's 100m dash 🇺🇸 Fred Kerley — 9.86 Marvin Bracy — 9.88 Trayvon Bromell — 9.88 The last time Team USA swept the event was in 1991.
The gold is the second of Kerley's world championships career after the 25-year-old sprinter picked up his first in 2019 as a member of the 4x400 meter relay. He boasts four total world championship medals as well as an Olympic silver from Tokyo, where he finished second behind Italian Lamont Marcell Jacobs in the 100-meter race. Jacobs withdrew from the event Saturday before his semifinal.
Bracy's silver was the first worlds medal of his career. Before shifting to a professional career as a sprinter, the 28-year-old was a wide receiver at Florida State. Bromell now has a pair of bronze medals after placing third in the same event at the 2015 World Championships. Christian Coleman, the 2019 world champion who did not race at the 2020 Olympics due to a suspension for missed drug tests, finished sixth with a time of 10.01.
The last time Team USA swept the event was in 1991 when Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrell and Dennis Mitchell stood atop the podium. The Americans also won all three medals in the men's 100-meter in 1983 with Lewis, Calvin Smith and Emmit King taking the top spots.
