Doctors first noticed something strange around Oliver's mouth when they scanned his pregnant mother, Marian Bayley, at 20-weeks.But on closer observation, foetal medicine specialists realised a large rare cyst was stopping Oliver from closing his mouth.
Oliver Bayley lies in hospital. The cyst on his tongue stopped him from being able to feed properly and doctors were worried it may interfere with his breathing. Surgeons feared the cyst could interfere with Oliver's breathing and were ready to operate, but surgery wasn't needed and Mrs Bayley gave birth naturally on September 26.
Consultant paediatric surgeons at St George's hospital, in London, drained the cyst when Oliver was 23 hours old, theHowever, the cyst began to grow again and Oliver returned to the hospital for a second operation, on November 25.
