The first version of the New Year honours list contained the home or work addresses of more than 1,000 recipients, including singer Sir Elton John.
The British Government has apologised to Sir Elton John and other people given awards in the New Year honours list, after inadvertently posting their addresses online.
"We apologise to all those affected and are looking into how this happened. We have reported the matter to the ICO and are contacting all those affected directly," the Cabinet Office said.The list reportedly included the addresses of prominent British politicians and senior police officers, as well as figures from the entertainment and sporting worlds,
British-born Australian singer and actress Olivia Newton-John was made a dame, with Sir Elton, who was knighted in 1998, receiving the highest acknowledgement, the Companion of Honour, for his services to music.
