The Ukrainian Naval Forces said 'our brothers are alive and well' after it was widely reported the group of 13 soldiers defending Snake Island were shelled for refusing to lay down their weapons and surrender.
Last week it was widely reported that 13 Ukrainian soldiers sent to protect Zmiinyi Island, also named Snake Island, were shelled by a Russian warship.
"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary victims. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared the group of 13 “died heroically” before the Ukrainian Naval Forces on Monday revealed the troops are actually “alive and well”.
