A major union has demanded Federal government action in the airline industry, following lengthy delays and cancellations at airports around the country.

It comes as tens of thousands of holidaymakers flocked to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports on Friday morning leading to lengthy lines at check-in and security in a near repeat of the Easter weekend chaos.

Dozens of flights were cancelled and hundreds of passengers were forced to rebook or make alternate plans after they missed their plane. At that time, Qantas management blamed passengers for not being ‘match-fit’ for travel, refusing to take responsibility for contributing to the crisis through its illegal outsourcing.

National Secretary Michael Kaine said “the definition of insanity” is doing the same thing twice and expecting a different outcome, referring to the chaos over the Easter break.
