Unions are calling for pay rises after data released on Wednesday revealed Australians experienced their largest fall in wages on record.

Australia’s Wage Price Index rose 0.8 per cent in the December quarter and 3.3 per cent annually – meaning the real value of wages declined 4.5 per cent in 2022.

The wholesale trade industry experienced the highest wage growth at 4.2 per cent, while the education and training industry recorded the lowest annual growth at 2.4 per cent.
