Australian universities spy a massive growth opportunity from India, but Victoria University’s chief international officer says there will be enough demand for all.
Indian students make up the dominant share of Victoria University’s international cohort, Mr Singh said, comprising about 36 per cent, followed by China with about 18 per cent.. “There are plenty of students. So, our mindset is not about being competitive with other universities, it is about growing the market share.“Indian students are really drawn to Melbourne and have shown a deep affinity with the community.
Indian international students were, pre-COVID, mostly drawn to commerce and management, IT and engineering at Victoria University, Mr Singh said. “Other universities have probably got the jump on us, but we’re determined to catch up quickly,” Mr Wesley told the“Competition for Indian students is definitely rising. When it comes to international education, the earlier you start recruiting and the more graduates you have, the more of a recruiting tool graduates become.”Mr Wesley flew to India this month – his third trip to the country in the past 12 months – as part of an education delegation with federal Education Minister Jason Clare.
