The Victorian Liberal Party has hit out at the scheme, with deputy leader Sam Groth telling party members they should refuse to comply with the “unnecessary and disturbing” requirement. A similar message, seen by SkyNews.com.au, was sent out to party members and election volunteers on Tuesday evening,
The message says Liberal Party state director Stuart Smith has written to the VEC stating that the party “strongly" objects to the scheme, noting it would “inadvertently publicly identify any of our volunteers who refuse to register their personal details in a government database”.
