Paramedics who rescued the 54-year-old said he was "critically unwell" and trapped in the car for almost 90 minutes as crews worked to free him from the wreckage.Mark Stockwell was driving home on Coolart Road in Tuerong on the Mornington Peninsula in August when the tree fell and landed across the road, striking and squashing the front half of his Toyota Aurion.

"I got in the seat behind Mark on the driver's side, and was holding his forehead to try to protect his spine," firefighter Jonathan Rendell said. Several months on from the freak accident, Stockwell still attends regular physiotherapy and hydrotherapy appointments and won't be able to resume driving for months.
