People in Cowalla — inland of Lancelin in WA’s Mid West — have been told they’re in danger from an out of control bushfire and to leave if the way is clear. The blaze was first reported about 12pm on New Year’s Eve and is threatening lives and homes in the Shire of Gingin. WA’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued an urgent warning for the people in the area either side of Cowalla Road bounded by Baramba Road in the north and Bidaminna Place in the south.
“If you cannot leave, you need to get ready to shelter in your home,” the emergency warning advised. “Go to a room in your home where you can shelter from the approaching fire. “The room should have running water, such as a kitchen or laundry, and have a clear exit so you can easily escape. “If you are not at home, it is too dangerous to return. The bushfire is moving fast in a north easterly direction and is unpredictable. The cause of the blaze is so far unknown.
