The Morrison Government should be asking questions of the Trump administration about whether a US-China agriculture trade deal has “disadvantaged” Australia, Labor leader Anthony Albanese says. Last week, China said it would allow a higher volume of barley imports from the US, adding to concerns Australia’s barley market was already at risk.
"The Australian Government should be pursuing with the US what the circumstances are behind the agreement between China and the US for access to China for US agriculture, and whether that has disadvantaged Australia, and we should be pursuing that on behalf of our farmers," Mr Albanese said. The Labor leader also said his party would support the government appealing the decision to the World Trade Organisation.
